Experts have revealed the interior design trends that are set to take over our homes in 2022 including curved details, statement hardware, rattan, stone furniture and long-lasting, durable pieces.  

With Covid lockdowns forcing so many Australians to spend more time indoors, interior designer Jane Thomson said home styling has become a tool to improve moods and boost morality. 

‘My clients are all so much more aware of how their environment affects their moods, mental health and even their relationships,’ she said. Experts have revealed the interior design trends that are set to take over our homes in 2022 including curved details, statement hardware, rattan, stone furniture and investing in long-lasting, durable pieces

‘COVID has forced us to shine a light into the deep, dark long-forgotten spaces in our abodes. The long-forgotten spare bedroom is no longer treated like the dumping ground for all things unwanted and has now become the hero and work horse of our homes.’ 

Below, Ms Thomson and co founder of designer rug brand, Miss Amara, Alexandra Tanya predict the hottest home styling trends for next year. 

Curves

Home stylists are starting to steer away from straight lines and right angles are are opting for soft curves.

‘The number of products that now sport feminine curves will be seen everywhere and will probably be around for some time,’ Ms Thomson said. 

‘From furniture to bathroom tiling and light fittings the curve is soft on the eyes and evokes feelings of a gentler time.’

‘Think massive round handles, colours contrasting with the chosen joinery. In other words, affording a big personality to otherwise boring joinery,’ Ms Thomson said. 

DIY expert, Geneva Vanderzeil was ahead of the game with this trend when she shared how to upcycle a $5 second-hand bedside table with statement handles she made from scratch in a video posted to Instagram.
